Workshop: The Future of Crafts
Held at Euromed University in Fez, this workshop, organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture at Euromed University and Universidade de Évora, aimed to highlight the value of craftsmanship in Morocco—a country with an exceptionally rich artisanal tradition.
The program fostered interdisciplinary and cross-cultural exchange, bringing together Moroccan and Portuguese students from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared artisanal heritage. Through discussions and hands-on activities, participants explored the role of craftsmanship in contemporary society, reflecting on how Maker Mile promotes artisanal trades in a sustainable way.
The workshop combined theoretical lessons on Venetian crafts—integral to the Maker Mile project—with immersive experiences, including visits to Moroccan artisan workshops. Students conducted research on local artisans and their techniques, examining how architecture can integrate craftsmanship to support the local economy, preserve cultural identity, and promote environmental sustainability.
