Maker Tales – “The Artisans of the Sestiere”, hosted in the evocative setting of the Jesuit Cloister at Combo Venice, offered an opportunity to present a selection of documentaries focused on the trades that sustain the soul of Venice. The series, created by Chiara Becattini for Maker Mile, with the direct support of citizens through Civic Crowdfunding and the Municipality of Venice, tells the stories of those who, with passion and dedication, carry forward the city’s ancient artisan traditions. Five episodes were screened during the event, each featuring one of the artisans involved in the project: Gabriele Gmeiner, Piero Dri, Stefano Morasso, Sandra Mavaracchio, and Marco Venier.

The screening was followed by a moment of dialogue and exchange with the artisans themselves, who shared deep reflections on the more human—and often complex—aspects of their work. It was a valuable opportunity to explore the meaning of craftsmanship in a unique context like Venice, where the rewards of the trade are closely intertwined with the daily challenges posed by the lagoon city.

The documentaries are available for viewing directly on the Maker Mile website, on the individual pages dedicated to each artisan.
