Workshop: Beyond Venetian Crafts
In collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture at Coburg University (Germany) and the European Cultural Centre, this workshop encouraged students to reinterpret traditional techniques in the creation of iconic Venetian architectural elements. The goal was to revitalize centuries-old crafts of the lagoon by blending heritage with contemporary design.
Students developed innovative solutions, such as roof terraces adorned with precious fabrics, inspired by the traditional altana—Venice’s characteristic wooden rooftop terraces, historically used for relaxation and panoramic views. They also embedded QR codes into city walls using traditional materials, merging craftsmanship with modern technology.
By reimagining artisanal techniques in an urban context, the workshop demonstrated how craftsmanship can shape the future of city spaces while preserving Venice’s cultural identity.
